Elhornet (influences set)

We were lucky enough to have Elhornet of Pendulum fame as a secret guest three years back! Word of mouth had spread & he knew the deal with our intimate venue & strictly alternative policy. Here's what he had to say about the set, we all agree it's one of the best we've heard so far

"So after hearing about these parties for ages I agreed to play one. No billing, no advertising! It was Xmas 2010 and I turned up with 2 record boxes filled with music that I hold dear, and music that influenced me as an artist throughout my life. Vinyl crackles, skipping records and questionable blends are all intentional and come with love because the people dem they lovin' it!. 100% wax selection from my collection. Enjoy."
Cheers @elhornet we certainly did!

Jackmaster & Ben UFO (Warmup Set)

Here's a some more quality content from OKI-NI, this time providing an alternative to the peak time sets we usually hear from these two.. In Ben's own words:

“This mix is dedicated to the art of the warm-up set...   Jack and I had been talking about how rare it was to walk into a club and see DJs building up a set and genuinely warming up the crowd, understandable given that every DJ wants to make an impact and make sure they're remembered at the end of the night. With that in mind we put ourselves forward to attempt to play the kind of warm-up we'd like to hear more often.”

Elhornet (Influences Mix)

Paul 'Elhornet' Harding is best known as one of the founding members of supergroup Pendulum. While not touring the world rocking stadiums however he also finds time to put together some bi-annual influences mixes. In his own words they are a "VERY VERY random mix of music". This is an accurate description, they're incredibly diverse & sound like full-on mashups at times. The most recent one came out via twitter in july and here's just a few of the artists included:  the whip, beats international, noisia, daft punk, nick cave, aphex twin,  david bowie, bell biv devoe, dizzee rascal & the rentals! That diversity should provide plenty of incentive so grab the mix below, follow him here & look out for the next one!

El-B (Cumbia, Merengue & Salsa mix)

Dubstep and Garage pioneer El-B reveals a strong passion for all things Cuban & Colombian in this fantastic mix brought to us courtesy of Joe Muggs at Very Very Much. The mix came about following an interview which Joe did for Wired in which El opens up about his father's Cuban Salsa band, Colombian family connections & daytime listening habits - check the full transcript here.

The mix itself stays in strictly traditional latin american territory and El describes these sounds as such: "you might not even like it but you can't help it, you have to move a hip or an elbow or something... it's infectiously bouncy... obviously just really fucking dancey".

Finally you'll be pleased to hear that both interviews hint at forthcoming house & funky productions with a Cumbia flavour from El-B!

Seiji (Strictly Vinyl Set)

In May this year it was the turn of the multi-faceted Seiji from Bugz in the Attic to headline our Genre special! Having been instrumental in the evolution of the UK broken beat, house & 2-step scenes we knew he'd have a great collection of influences to bring down.. Much to our surprise he enforced a strictly vinyl policy on himself and lugged down a huge bag of the black crack for us! You can catch the whole 2.5 hours here as he takes us through classic house & 2step with some trademark broken beats and even some vintage D&B!
